The Monkey Magician is actually me, James Howard, a 27 year old website designer / developer currently working for ioko as a web developer.
Since about 1998 I’ve been creating websites and making computers do strange things using code. Originally all I created were terribly designed personal websites and stange mini games in BASIC, but everyone has to start somewhere.
My first ‘professional’ website was created about a year later with a school friend, for his dad’s business. The realisation that I could make money from something I enjoyed doing hit home.
Like most web designers of the time, it took me a fair few years of producing increasingly well constructed table-based layouts before I realised there was a better way. Once the powerful simplicity of CSS became apparent I was hooked and have tried to keep sites standards compliant and useable ever since.
Developing in PHP started with requests from clients who wanted to update sections of their websites themselves and subsequently to full blown web applications and the use of OO PHP5
So here am I, the usual mix between a website developer and designer, still trying to find the perfect balance between logic and creativity.
